    Remington Viper 522 magazine?

    Hi,

I'm looking for magazines for my old, trusty 522 Viper which I received as a Christmas gift back around 1995 or so. I had it in storage for a while and now can't find the magazines. I've seen a few online for around $50 but I figured I'd ask here in case anyone has any lying around that they'd be willing to sell. There was a similar thread on this that's about two years old so I figured I'd start a new one. Please let me know if you have any of these or have a lead on one.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Try and get the metal ones. They are more reliable .

And going price is about $50 per for the metal ones.

And check Numrich they have them , sometimes.

Thanks for the links, I will go that route if I don't hear back from anyone with spare/unwanted magazines.

      Take care,

        Hello,

I had two posted on RFC, no interest.

If you'd like, I'll post them here.

They are original plastic, both have Wolff springs, and one is unused but fired solely for function check after the new springs. The other is lightly used. I had four but two went with the rifle when I sold it.

        Regards,

        Josh

I'm looking for metal mags, but did the Wolff springs improve the feeding on the plastic ones? Any FTFs with the plastic mags? Please post them, that would be great, plastic mags will still get me to the range!

          Thx!

            Hello,

            Posted here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...0#post13060840

I'm not sure what the issue ever was with the plastic magazines. I never had problems with them; don't recall a single malfunction caused by the magazines. This includes shooting before I put the Wolff springs in.

I just find that Wolff springs keep problems from developing suddenly. For example, stock springs in Savage MkII .22LR magazines tend to be weak. They're not as week as four or five years ago, but you'll suddenly find yourself with the round nosing down instead of feeding.

The weak springs in the Savage magazines seem to be a concession to poor manufacture: The magazines are stamped sheet metal held together with tenons. Now, this is usually a very strong setup, but they just don't take the time to properly stake the tenons.

In the Savage magazines, stake the tenons better using either a steel punch or a staking tool for the 1911 front sight.

I then pull the floorplate off, gut it, and replace the spring with a properly cut Wolff spring. Feeding improves and the magazine is worth something.

I'll continue doing this until someone starts making aftermarket Savage MkII magazines. The mags are not even inserted into the rifle until I work on them.

Moving on to the Viper 522 mags, I pulled the floorplates first off and tested for function. One hung slightly on a flaw in the thermo-molding, and it was polished out very easily. The other one had no hangups with or without the spring in it.

Still, they received the slightly stronger Wolff springs.

The plastic magazines seem to be pretty well made. I don't see what the issue was with them, unless these are a new style plastic mag. I don't think that Viper had the first malfunction. I did buy it with a broken ejector, but that was easily fixed using spring steel and those cases would fly, man!

The Viper was bought for a non-gun-person girlfriend, and I sold it after she and I broke up. She didn't want to keep it and it reverted to me. I sent it down on the line after that.

Seems a couple mags were in with some other spare parts though, and that's what I'll sell.

As I said, one was used lightly and the other was shot to test for function. Neither showed any signs of malfunctioning.

            Regards,

            Josh

I sent you a PM. I had one plastic and one steel mag and only had FTF issues with the plastic one. So much so that I stopped using it and misplaced it at some point.

              Thanks again,
              Franc

                Thanks, I replied.

I wonder why the FTF with the plastic one? Maybe malformed in the thermo-molding process on the feed lips?
