Taccom/Better Mag Adapter

I got my Better mag adapter in the mail today with a S & W 25 round mag.

I worked with a lower for about 2 hours trying to get it to fit.
The better Mag Adapter had to be forced in and knocked out with a dowel and small hammer

I spoke with Boonie Packer and they had never had this issue. So I thought it was just my luck.
I did a little sanding and it seemed to loosen some but was still a PITA to get in and out.

After running out of options I took a longer look into how things were fitting together.
Seems the Magwell has some weird ridge inside the the adapter was hanging on.
(I did initially try a quick fit in other lowers and decided it didn't fit any better)

Moral of the story, if the adapter has a hard time fitting, check the mag well real closely.

The little bit of sanding I did evidently knocked off the rough spots and the second lower I tired worked just fine.

With the small amount of machining Tim did to the Better Mag adapter, it fit the Taccom bolt just fine.
AND IT WORKS 100%
It never failed once. 1 round in the mag, 5, 10, 25. Empty mag. Didn't matter. The bolt easily and positively locked back every time

If you want reliable bolt lock and a reliable, accurate .22 upper, the Taccom fills the ticket.

The Better mag with the Taccom adjustment still works just fine with the CMMG bolt too.

Thanks for the post Shadow, you sold me, I have to give it a try. I ordered the better mag adapter and some S&W mags; It'll probably be a month before I get them and am able to try it but thanks for the info.

Keep in mind, the Better Mag that Tim is selling has be altered for the Taccom BCG.
Still works with any other Atchison type bcg .
The standard Better mag will not work with the Taccom BCG.

mine works great. I have the original boonie packer and complete cmmg upper.
2,000 rds through it so far and not one ftf/fte. Amazing for a .22lr...my spike was way more finicky.

About how far up does your adapter stick up above the upper when it is in place? Does it go up and down a bit if you jiggle it?

Guessing I would say 1/2".

I insert the S & W mag, lock it in, then re seat the Better Mag Adapter from the top.
It doesn't appear to move enough to cause an issue.

After fighting the CMMG BHOA and mags for years, this is a refreshing extra for me.
Now if BDM would design a mag for it, it would be great.

on a side note, I was able to loose the small H part ..twice.. no clue how as I never open the top part...I have a BAD lever..maybe it puts too much pressure...

Thank you. Thats about the same on mine, for some reason i thought that was to high. Seems to lock in place with the magazine in.

Update on the better mag adapter using w/ a Taccom upper/ barrel: during the course of shooting/ going thru mags; the better mag adapter was moving some inside the lower. There's a spring loaded pin on the better mag adapter but it wasn't keeping the adapter from moving up and down while ejecting mags, putting a full one in, etc. (S&W M&P 15-22 10 round shorty mags.)
My rifle was still stove piping once in a while or failing to feed, but was better than w/o the mag adapter and with the black dog mags.
To keep the better mag adapter in one place; I drilled and tapped a small hole in the front of the lower, between where the front takedown pin goes through, then put a short set screw in that hole, and adjusted the mag adapter up towards the top, but so that it doesn't interfere with the bolt obviously. I had to grind down the set screw to clear the upper when you attach it back on.
Anyway took it to the range a couple of days ago and it ran perfectly, and the bolt always stopped open on the last round too, no problems at all.
To run right on mine the better mag adapter had to be in the right spot and not move, which mine was moving some.
I know this fix isn't for everyone, but when the upper is attached you can't even see the set screw.
Worked for me and thought I'd pass it on fwiw.
