    10/22 Firing Pin

Was at the range shooting the 10/22 TD and had a few instances where the the gun would misfire. However, when I looked at the casing, it appears the firing pin nicked the outer rim.

After Googling the issue it appears there is some vertical play in the firing pin. Not sure if this is normal.

So will I need to contact Ruger (again...) or will a firing pin fix the problem? Rather not get a new bolt but that could be an option...

Normal. My 10/22 bolts are cross-drilled & pinned. This eliminates most of the vertical firing pin movement. Also the headspace is re-ground, this improves the firing pin striking ability. I also have them radiused & sometimes jeweled.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

Did you perform this work yourself or did you send the bolt to someone?

At this point, I'm ready to say "screw it" and start modding this jam-o-matic

I send them to Connecticut Precision Chambering (CPC) Rimfirecentral has excellent threads on .22's of all kinds. Plenty of info & vendors too. The first 10/22 I bought was a pos from the box. Failures to fire, eject & feeding issues. It also had lightstrikes regularly. Finally I took the bolt apart & discovered the firing pin spring was installed backwards & the little pigtail part of spring was bent. The first "round" of mods I did was a Volq firing pin, volq extractor & Wolff spring kit. Now my fav 10/22 has nothing factory on it, even the receiver is modded. It performs very well.

I did some searching on this issue and CPC came up a few times.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue. Sigh. Your problems sound exactly like the one's I've experienced.

Edit. Checked out the CPC Bolt Rework package, definitely should look into it.

I got the basic firing pin from Volq, extractor & all the springs. I also learned to take apart & detail 10/22 magazines. This was my first round of "mods" & that's all it required. Never had any issues since then. You don't need to spend a lot, bolt work isn't necessary either! I don't remember what CPC charges, easy to look up. The bolt service does the following...Regrind headspace, radius bolt surface area (easier cycling) & cross-pin firing pin. They also check the firing pin depth.

Link provided above! the bolt on this receiver is "Jeweled"

I have decided to cease doing any work for now. With a full time job and this I find that this is all I do. I will continue to warranty any and all work that I have done. All is well here I assure you. Just found that sometimes certain things are best. When/should the status change I'll be sure to

I just got my bolt back today and couldn't be happier with it, I was having Jams stovepipes,FTF,FTE no matter what ammo I tried or what mag I used. I changed the ejector the guide rod and spring, polished the guide rod, the cocking handle.nothing worked. I sent my bolt to QUE and he reworked it...
