As for ammo shortage, there will be (has been) a price hike. Not 22LR, but Walmart had 100 rounds of 9mm for $25.96 last week. Yesterday, price was $26.67. The cost increase isn't significant but the fact that Walmart did bump up the price is very telling of what is to come (from others).

American Eagle is the only one (that I've ever seen) that does that. The one time I bought AE I thought "I hope this doesn't catch on".

I bought three boxes of that stuff at Walmart last week. First I have ever bought. You had me worried. I checked mine and it is 50 rounds..Whew

I have never seen 40 round boxes of .22 ammo and I buy and shoot alot of it..

They are doing the same with Bacon! 12oz packs instead of 16oz. I usually buy 4 pounds at a time. I looked over my stock of .22lr and no 40 packs.
I have not bought in the last few months however I will be looking to buy in the coming months. Still have a lot I bought at .035 cents a round.

Was looking at the American Eagle ammo at walmart the other day. the 36gr comes in 40rd boxes while the 40gr comes in 50rd boxes
