SAVAGE 64 Tactical Carbine THREAD size (Big 5 exclusive Ed)

Just FYI: I have this same model (Big 5 exclusive model) carbine/rifle: Model: Savage 64-TR.
The thread is 1/2 x 20. I took my muzzle break to the nuts and bolts shop and they measured it to a T.
    Regards.

BTW I bought this rifle this month. Just picked it up two days ago from Big 5 jail.
    $169.00

    Awesome rifle!

      Nice rifle, congratulations.

I'm looking to pick up an inexpensive .22, and I've seen these at Big 5. I'm also looking at the Marlin 795, and 60. I don't know much about the Savage. How would say it compares to the Marlins?

        It's on par.
Took it to the range today. 300 rounds (only).
2 boxes (100 rds each) of CCI minimags HP. High velocity. 2 hiccups.
2 boxes (50 each) Aguila SuperExtra High velocity round nose. No problems.
        I did purchase 3 extra Savage mags @ Big 5. 16 bucks a piece.

        I definitely recommend this carbine.

I did install a red dot sight.

Yes, I was wondering about the front sights. Sorry, I'm not familiar with how it works with a muzzle break. Do you just mount a sight right on top of the break?

Also, in terms of fit and finish and accuracy, were you satisfied? I'm leaning towards the Savage just because it's so much easier to find the mags.

Savage 64TR-SR's (as well as Savage MkII fv-sr) come with 1/2x28 threads which are industry-standard AR15 muzzle threads. I am curious why your particular model would be threaded in the unusual (for a .22 caliber muzzle brake) 1/2-20 thread pitch.

I asked myself the same question after purchasing three 1/2 -28 to 3/4 adapters online.....

It is a Big 5 Exclusive long gun. It's not listed on Savage's Catalog. The correct model nomenclature for this puppy is Savage 64-TR

Who knows, but to save all the owners the trouble of finding out and dealing with the hassles of purchasing adaptations (ie. muzzle brakes.. etc) that have the standard 1/2-28.. Now you know it's 1/2" -20TPI (threads per inch)

I did notice a thread back in august of a Calgunner that was flustered because he purchased incorrect muzzle breaks becuase he did not know the thread size.

I think he ended up selling/offering up his carbine on account of it.

Well this thread was made to inform you about the correct size.

BTW, the Red dot sight, I mounted it on the rear 1 slot rail. (The carbine comes with two one slot rails. I guess for scope mount)
It's a great carbine. And @ 169.00 you cant go wrong with it.

Marlin 795 is an amazing value and a super gun. I love mine.

It does not come with fixed sights. It comes with two single slot rails above the receiver for scope/ picattany rail sight mounts.

In my case I installed (over the rear rail) a Red dot dight.

This is how it looks with the red dot sight.

I know this thread is a bit old, just wondering how everything is holding up on this Savage for you?
