    Savage .22 sight removal

Hi all. Recently acquired a Savage .22 that I immediately went and put a scope on. Noticed that the rear sight is preventing me from moving the scope back after a certain distance, and was wondering if there is a way of removing it. Sorry I don't have any actual pictures, I'm at work right now, but here is a picture of the rifle I did get:

Is this something I can reasonably do without ruining the sight base if I choose to put it back on in the future?

Tape all around the sight so you don't damage the barrel. Using a punch and hammer, drive the sight out of the dovetail from left to right as viewed from the rear. Taking the action out of the stock and supporting it on a block, or even better in a padded vise will make the job easier.
