    savage 64 .22lr Magazine problems

After a few thousand rounds my savage 64, I got 4 or 5 years ago, tends to jam up a lot because the magazines wear down, I guess from the rim of the .22, and the round gets stuck half way in the mag when attempting to feed. I no longer shoot this gun because I'm tired of paying $20 for a mag that doesn't last. I've gone through 3 already.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Anyone having the same problems?

I don't have that problem with my 64 but I did file the top rim of my mag's so the feed ramp was nice and smooth also I clean my bolt every 700 to 1000 rds to keep it working smooth. Wish I could help more but youtube has a guy that does a few mod's on his mag's & rifle plus you could call Savage Arms.
    Hope you find the problem.

The magazines are made of pot metal and simply aren't the best. In fact, the RO where I shoot looked at it and just scoffed at it.

I had one mag that wasn't too heavily used, that failed to hold a round after about three rounds were loaded. The round would just fly out of the mag because the feed lips were so worn.

I clean the rifle when I come back from the range, so I don't think that's an issue.

I have no fix for the Savage mags.

Yea. I figured the mag issue was a lost cause. I too clean my rifles regularly my rifles in good shape and shoots well after aprox. 3-4 thousand rounds. But I got really tired of buying mags so I just swooped up a 10/22 and life is good (besides the fact that getting 22 at a reasonable price is a fairytale). I was just trying to see if it was worth buying a new mag and bringing her out of the safe again.
