Inherited a Glenfield Model 60 from my grandpa, and the rifle clearly has spent some time in damp conditions. There are a few rust patches on the outer barrel and was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks for removing them?

Rust Removal?

try steel wool but don't use it like sandpaper but more like your cleaning the rust off if that makes sense. -
Put a layer of Kroil on it and let it soak for a day or two. Rub it with some copper wool and that will remove the rust. The copper will not damage the good bluing. Keep it oil from there on. There is nothing you can do if you have developed pits other than keep it from getting worse and the bluing in the old rust spots will be gone as well, so you will always see the spots.USS ZELLARS

0000 steel wool with Wonder Blue use a hair dryer to warm the metal and wipe with a soft paper towel. Don't use scotch rite with it as it will remove bluing but 0000 just the rust. Check out the video on their website.
Plus if you kit the kit it does a great touch up also.US Navy Retired, NRA Lifetime member. Member CRPA

Kroil, 0000 steel wool... all good suggestions.
Be sure you take a good look inside that bore, too.Comment

Keep the 0000 steel wool soaked in WD40, Kroil, or come other light oil. It will float away the rust and keep the scratching to a minimum. Then wash well and touch up with cold blueing. It takes 7 to 10 coates to match the original color. DRComment

The only problem that you may run into is if you don't have any Kroil. I have not seen it in hardware stores in ages. It's one of those jackass Kalifornia E.P.A. things. At any rate you can order some from here or many other resources.
