1st range trip with new Savage BSEV

Hey guys finally was able to take out my new Savage .22lr BSEV. Let me just say the rifle was fantastic. Once I got it sighted in the rifle was flawless!

    I used CCI Mini-Mags 36Gr hollow's

    Rifle is a Savage BSEV
Scope is a Redfield 3-9x42mm Battlezone

Heres a couple quick pics. The target was shot at 50 yards. I had a few flyers and was messing around, but once I felt comfortable I was very thrilled with the results

    Good shots.

Too bad the range I use only has 25 and 100 yard

The accutrigger seems great. It didn't take any getting used to at all. Feels completely natural. I haven't messed with any adjustments yet. I felt is was darn good right out of the box. Maybe if I get bored ill tinker with it.

I have the cheap cousin of your rifle, the Mk II FV (bull barrel, plastic stock). I've only been to the range with it 5 times but so far I'm getting better groups with Winchester bulk ammo (36 grain, 1280 fps) than CCI Mini Mags. Dime sized groups at 50 yards has been pretty much the norm. Not bragging, but I was surprised that the cheaper Winchester ammo did so well, especially since other Mk II owners all seemed to do pretty well with Mini Mags.

I will have to try them out. I think I actually have some of that winchester. I just have more Mini-Mags right now then anything. It seemed to like them fairly well. This is my 1st time taking the rifle out and I'm a pretty new shooter. Im sure in the next few months I will be much better. But its also very nice to be at the range for a few hours and only be out $20-$30 in ammo!

Is that stainless, fluted bbl straight, or does it have a slight taper?

Its straight, no taper. The barrel is darn heavy. Im guessing the rifle weighs 9+lbs with the scope mounted. Definitely a table rifle no freestanding unless your a man-bear-pig. Then you can free stand!

Well I took the BSEV out for its 2nd range trip today. Shot at 50 yards and 100. I have about 200ish round through it now. Im still a very new shooter obviously, but I can now clearly see how much more accurate the rifle is then me.

I forgot to take a pic of my 100 yard target. The grouping wasn't fantastic, but thats on my part. I also didn't take more then a minute or so to try and sight it in correctly. I will say my 7" day glow had hits all over about about 20 of the 40 rounds fired were in a 3" group. Not to bad for my 1st time shooting 100 yards with anything.

Heres a couple pics. This target is from 50 yards. The top right hand side was my best 3 shot group of the day. I used CCI Mini-Mags 36gr HP. It was pretty windy out today to. Im guessing 8-10mph winds.

Nice groupings. Looks to be about 3 MOA (1.5" at 50 meters). That little 3-shot is about 1 MOA but you might have got lucky that time.

10 MPH wind at full value (blowing straight across) at 50 meters, with that load, is a correction of at most 2 MOA, or roughly 1" on your target. Enough to move your groups noticeably but really not enough to worry about.

Next trip out, try to focus your eye on the crosshairs rather than the target. Everyone has a tendency to look "through" the crosshairs at the target, but try to fight that, instead your eye should be locked on the crosshairs and you start your squeeze when the background looks right. Should shrink those groups a bit more right away.

With quality ammo like Mini-Mags that rifle is probably capable of less than 1 MOA, consistently. More accurate than almost all shooters under realistic conditions. Nice to see rifles that work!

Thanks for the tips. Ill work on looking at the crosshairs not through them at the actual target. The Top left, Top Right and bottom left were the 3 groups I took my time to try and place the best 3 shot groups I could. Top right being the best of the 3. I was really starting to feel pretty confident shooting today. I only placed about 40 rounds at 100 yards today. 20 of them were within a 3" group. Next weekend Im gonna play around a bit more at 100 yards. Im hoping to get the group between 2-3" consistently. I know I can get close to that. @100 yards I really saw how much the wind effects a little .22LR round!
