Does anyone know what the longest shot that's been taken with a .22lr rifle? I found this video the other day that claims to have set the record (600 yds) but does anyone know of any documented shots that beat it?

The drop at 600 ft must be insane.
****, at 200 yards it's dropped 10 feet! Lolsigpic"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

In a follow up video the shooter explains how he calculated the bullet drop:
And it sounds like he zeroed the scope to 600 yards to make the shot. Makes sense, but I'll be a bit surprised if this is the actual record. I tend to think it would be a lot longer than 600 yds. Not an easy shot, mind you, but I would think it possible.Comment

I'm curious what scope he has. I've shot out to 400yrd with about 50% hits on a bit smaller target and NO wind. 600 yards with my DOPE is about 166moa of drop so I would need to max the scope and hold over ALOT. I've never seen anyone try this far. pretty cool.Comment

Elevated scope base will alleviate some drop from the scope itself. I've seen 30+ moa elevated bases on 10/22's lol.Comment

I shot a .22lr once at well over a mile and consistently hit the side of the mountain that I was shooting at. It all depends on what size target and the hit to miss ratio you consider acceptable.Last edited by CSACANNONEER; 10-28-2013, 2:54 PM.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Well, there's always these if you want to dial in an extra 150 MOA

The second video I linked to explains how the shooter calculated how thick a shim he needed to add to the rear scope mount.I'm curious what scope he has. I've shot out to 400yrd with about 50% hits on a bit smaller target and NO wind. 600 yards with my DOPE is about 166moa of drop so I would need to max the scope and hold over ALOT. In one of my grandfather's wheat fields, I took aim and fired at a large dirt clod. My .22 rifle was elevated around a 45 degree angle. I was firing the rifle like a mortar. When the round hit the dirt, I used that to adjust the elevation of my rifle and kept firing. I was able to consistently hit the dirt clod. This was decades before range finders existed, so I have no idea how far away my shots were landing. I would estimate that it was over 1000 yards.sigpicComment

My best .22 lr shot was a squirrel at 165 yards with a stock 10/22. Even at that range your holding towards the very bottom of the crosshair.Comment
