Which Ruger 10/22 Takedown Recommended - Tactical or SS?

I've wanted one of these Ruger takedowns for awhile and decided it's finally time, but I'm a bit torn between the two. Tactical looks a bit "cooler" in my opinion and has a flash suppressor, but I believe the barrel is 2 inches shorter than the stainless steel model... Any comments from owners? Planning on hitting up Turners after work tomorrow :-)

I have the SS but that was before the tactical was released. Not going to lose much either way but I would go with the SS because I prefer a SS barrel.

Probably not.Don't see much point to a flash supressor on a .22LR though.

To me, the entire concept of a "tactical" .22LR is a bad joke. It makes sense to put a .22 LR upper on an AR for low-cost training. But dressing up a .22LR rifle like the 10/22 in "tactical" accessories and costume jewelry just reeks of mall ninja.

I have the stainless. Either of them would be good to get. The short barrel one may be a problem for you if you get a folding stock. Some of the stocks would possibly make it under minimum length. If you really like the flash cage on the tactical one but prefer stainless steel you can get an aftermarket flash suppressor for about $10.

Out of the 5 takedowns I own my multicam tactical version with a 16" stainless steel threaded barrel and flash hider is my favorite. They are very hard to find distributor exclusives and you have to pay a premium for them. The reason for the threaded barrel is to make the rifle silencer ready out of the box- not for us in CA though...

That being said I recommend BOTH!

I don't see the 2" of barrel making much if any difference. I have a ruger target with a 20" barrel and I have taken it out to 120 yards but real effective range for both is about 80-100 yards.
