    Case head tore off today

How normal is that? Took a little work to get it out but it wasn't too hard to get out.

Interesting, I shoot a lot of .22 and have had a few cases of crack type ruptures around the case head, but never had one come clean off. What brand and model was that?

That is certainly a surprise. Any other events? What gun?

No other events. It's in my dedicated 22 ar. I extracted the case and fired another 300 rounds without any issues.

Looks like an out of battery firing. It happens with semi's. Luckily (if that's what happened) you didn't get sprayed with powder and bits of brass.

It's from an out of battery discharge. The case separates because the end of the case wall is not contained in the barrels breech. You are lucky there were no other complications. With 10-22's and 15-22's it's not unusual for damage to result.

It happens. Just make sure the bullet is not stuck in the barrel and keep on trucking if nothing is damaged. Some guns like to launch the extractor when this happens.
