    Which Anschutz Thumbhole Stock?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a benchrest style stock for my 10/22 Kidd build and these two are in the running.

    1. SKS (Stocky's) Anschutz Thumbhole - Wood laminate. $200

    2. Bell & Carlson Anschutz Thumbhole - Synthetic (plastic shell with a reinforced foam core). $230

I think the Stocky's would be a little stronger and stiffer than the B&C, but also a little heavier. The foam core of the B&C sounds kind of cheap...reminds me of how a bicycle helmet is built. I prefer the black finish on the B&C, but the Stocky's in gray or walnut would also work.

So, which one would you choose?

If shooting bench rest then I would go with the stocky's. If you are going to hunt with it then I would go with the B&C. I would not be concerned with the foam core as if it was solid fiber glass it would weight a ton. I caution you on the thumb hole stock to check it first. If you have big hands the thumb hole may be too small.

If shooting benchrest you want the heavier stock, wood is better, less flex. For instance my Kimber 82G weighs in at 11 lbs and is rock solid on the bench, stays on POA after each shot. A lighter stock won't do that, have to readjust after each shot.

Thanks guys, I was leaning towards the Stocky's. This rifle should come in at 10 lbs at least when it's put together.

I've tried thumbhole stocks before and like them, but one advantage of the Stocky's is that I could easily reshape the grip or thumbhole, whereas doing this on the B&C might weaken it since I'd be damaging the shell.
