Looking for non AR .22 plinker

I am looking to buy a tacticool .22 plinker and am not an AR person, so no 15-22 for me. Here are some of the guns I am looking into, is there anything else out there that I should know about? I do have an HK pistol, so naturally I have been looking at the HK clones in .22 =).

    Walther HK 416
    Walther MP5
    Sig 522
    10/22 with G36 conversion

Right now, I am leaning toward the 10/22 + G36 conversion because the 10/22 platform is solid from my understanding. However, I also hear the build quality on the Sig 552 is excellent and both are pretty reliable from what I've read.

    The original

    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

How about a 10/22 in a Tapco stock. You get all the durability and reliability of a 10/22 and its not really a AR look a like maybe closer to a tactical Mini 14 in appearance.

Get a bone stock 10-22 and then customize to your hearts desire.
Affordable, dependable and more custom options available then any other weapon in the world besides an AR style rifle.

              Sig-522. Mega fun.

Don't want to bust your bubble, but "HK" .22 rifles are nothing like actual HK firearms. No Umarex/HK clone I've ever handled has come close to the quality of my actual HK firearms.

If you can let the "tacti cool" thing go, the Ruger American Rimfire is a sweet shoot.

Another vote for getting a 10/22 and building it up they way you want.

Yes, I would not expect HK quality for $500 =). I hadn't heard about the Beretta ARX160 so thanks to those that mentioned it.

The 10/22 is a solid choice, I just need to decide if I want something I can modify endlessly or one of the other options that will be tacticool out of the box.

May as well cross the 416 off your list if you don't want a 15-22... That's basically the same thing but with an HK logo. I'm guessing the .22 doesn't have a piston upper

I'd go 10/22 with the g36 kit if you want tacticool. It'll be fairly accurate, dependable, and long-lasting. Plus, if/when you get tired of it, you already have the 10/22 guts - just slap a new stock on it.

Beretta ARX160 is a nice rifle. The sights suck, but its fun to shoot once you zero it in or put an optic, its also easy to maintain. I wish the ARX100, the 223/5.56 version would come out already! I might sell my ARX160 though, I have more fun shooting the Marlin 795 that cost me $120!

Are you looking for iron sights or optics? I have a 10/22 with a hogue stock an tech sights. Amazing combo. I love it. Super accurate and fun to shoot. And it's not an ar style at all but has lot of tacticoolness to it for sure.

You can go the optics route for 10/22's with heavy barrels and those really crazy thumb hole type stocks. Trigger upgrades and expensive optics. Although I have to admit I've never been that intrigued by that path.

The 10/22 is super configurable. Probably the best all around option if only because you're not limited to one set build. Although a nice bolt 22 is also a good way to go. I'm really liking the ruger American rimfire and have thought about one before 2014.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

                              I have a few 10/22s including an SR-22, a Sig 522, a GSG-5 SD, and a couple AR-22s the best of which has Spike's Tactical dedicated 22LR upper.

The 10/22 (or maybe the SR-22 because you want a tacticool look and feel) is probably best for your first one because of the reliability, upgrade options, accuracy, etc. as others have said. The performance will be in direct proportion to what you spend. Kidd and Volquartsen barrels cost as much as the base rifle but they are dead nuts accurate. A Volquartsen or Timney trigger assembly is a huge upgrade as well if you're ready to spend another $200+. Once I found the best match ammo for my 10/22 with the Vol barrel (the SR-22 liked a different round) it was incredibly accurate even at 200yds. I also used and like the Hogue stock and I chose a 3-9 Bushnell Elite Tactical.

The Sig 522 is accurate, eats almost any ammo, is light weight and easy to clean.

The GSG has been reliable as well, but not quite as accurate. I have a relatively early one and the build quality is very good. It is heavier than the rest.

The ARs are good, but I only recommend the dedicated upper route with a good barrel (mine is a Lothar Walther). Tactical Solutions also gets high marks from what I've read. With the AR platform, you'll have lots of options for furniture and accessories.

                              Good luck and have fun!
