10/22 --- Replace Old Butler Creek 25 rd. mags with BX-25's?

Can I replace old (never good) Butler Creek 25 round mags for my 10/22 with the newer Ruger BX-25s that have a steel feed lip?

    Can a BX-25 be disassembled?

The BX-25 is superior magazine. It has metal lips and can be taken apart by 2 little screws. I don't know what you mean by 'replace' with?

Good question, technically you would have to "repair" your old mags with parts from the new mags, or have at least one old part in the BX 25 mag. Not sure how to do that.

      BX25s can easily be disassembled.

The red follower is the same or very similar to some of the old butler creek mags and are interchangeable.

My understanding of mag rebuild kits is that you are free to buy kits and assemble them as long as you don't end up with more mags than you started with. So I was going to get the new BX 25s and destroy the crappy Butler Creek mags I own.

I disagree. Let's say you repair the crappy old mag with all new parts except for one old part. Later, that one old part breaks. Are you now going to throw the mag away? Of course not. You simply repair the broken part. Now your mag has no original parts, but it is still a true functional rebuild of your original mag.

As long as you still have the same number of standard capacity mags as you had purchased before the ban, then you have not been manufacturing new mags. Remember, owning standard capacity magazines is NOT illegal under current law. And you do NOT have to prove when you acquired the mags, how you acquired the mags, or how many you owned before the ban.

Never had a problem with my butler creek 25s. They have metal lips just like the bx-25s.

Butler creek: hot lips are plastic lips, and the steel lips are metal...

I've put away a stash of the old Butler Creek 25rd 10-22 mags with metal feed-lips and used two of them for many many years now---no issues.
My buddy has a few with the plastic feed-lips and reports no issues---he's been shooting them since before the ban.
                  Sooooooo, what does this mean?

My 20 year old Hot Lips plastic feed-lips have always given me issues, more like chicken lips! I have shot the BX-25's and they feel much more solid and feed perfectly! I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a few... <-- Pun Intended!
