    Looking for lead-free 22lr ammo

I'm already in a lead ban area. I have a good stock of lead free in 22wmr, 17hmr, 17m2, 223. '06 but I need non-lead 22lr. Winchester and CCI make them, but I can't find any.

Does anybody have a link to somewhere I can look to buy? Have looked at the usual sites.

    Thanks

    Like these ?

Bweise says "I have to say the situation was not at all helped by 22 yr old former Airsoft douches who kept touting here, "But possession is not illegal!" "

Bass Pro Shop HAD some bismuth based ammo, before the panic.. If memory serves, it was made by Winchester.

Winchester is producing lead free .22 lr, it is out there.

Of course the way the .22 lr market is right now is when its in stock anywhere at a reasonable price it is gone within minutes. If you want to get some you need to be checking online quite often, thats the only way your going to have a chance at getting some anytime soon.

Midway does have the Winchester load free load listed in their site, you could at least get on the "notify me" list.

            Why?

The ban is on lead ammo hunting - not lead ammo.
I can always use lead ammo for plinking. Under the current ban, I can use lead rimfire for small game animals, but not for non-game animals such as ground squirrels, etc.

This is a rimfire exclusion only, as there weren't any 22lr non-lead offerings at the time the current condor area lead ban went into effect.

Yes but when the new law goes into effect it will ban all lead for all hunting for all areas of California. The lead free 22LR ammo was tough to find pre panic and just about impossible right now. It shows up on gunbroker from time to time for lots of monies.

I was pretty sure the new lead hunting ban only applied to centerfire.

I was pretty sure the new lead hunting ban only applied to centerfire.
The current lead ban covers condor areas in and around the lower San Joaquin Valley. It prohibits centerfire and rimfire for hunting, but lead rimfire can be used on small game animals. This means you can shoot a tree squirrel with lead 22lr, but can't shoot a ground squirrel which is a non-game animal. This was due to the scarcity of non-lead rimfire options.

I don't know if or how the new state-wide ban will compare.

My understanding is that with the permisssion of the landowner you can participate in thedepridation of distructive nusance animal with lead bullets...it depends on the officer in front of you if you are going to argue that in court but check ddfg website and carry the paperwork. i have non lead bullets just in case and have switched to lead free air rifles for tis just to be safe but check it out.....try to google the dfg page

Midway had a lot of winchester "tin" 22 lr in a couple of weeks ago... 79.99 per 500 is the normal price... Ya ouch... I got a brick to split with my buddy and the word was posted here somewhere... Its fast with a 32gr bullet (1630 or so) but not that accurate in my guns... I usually shoot it out of a rem nylon and it works the action well ... So win is still making it and its out there now if you can find it... Cheers...
