Hi all. Just a lil scope fitment issues i discovered on the Ruger American Rimfire. I tried mounting a 40mm Simmons 8 point with Weaver tip over mounts. No go. The front objective bell hits the rifles rear sight when i attempted to slide it back to adjust the scope for proper eye relief. Yes i could remove the rear sight, but i don't want to. Further more. The scope to barrel clearance is to close , as it interferes when putting on scope covers. So looks like im changing em out for separate mounts and rings. Just thought id give a heads up for others contemplating a scope.

You could go with higher (medium?) rings but I think you'd be better off replacing the scope. If all you can afford is a Simmons then consider a 22 Mag 3-9x32 or 3-9x32 w/AO. Hopefully the smaller objective will give you the clearance that you need.
If you can afford better then consider a Weaver RV7 or RV9 or Leopold VX-1 Rimfire. A good rifle deserves a good scope."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

I used the built in dove tails for the weaver mounts. Guna go the mount/rings way. Shop were i bought the rifle had the #12 mounts, just waiting for the taller rings to come in.
Side note, my Ruger rimfire came factory sealed with two of the low rise stock inserts. Call to Ruger to learn they are getting numerous calls regarding rifles being shipped without the hi-rise stock insert. The hi-rise is on they way.
They gave, so we have.Comment
