Your thoughts on remington 597

Kind of a "sleeper", but right up there with the Ruger 10/22 IMHO.....Well designed, well built, and reliable. Just not as many after market parts available as the 10/22 but the 597 also has a following and an aftermarket parts supply that is substantial. The HB model is sweet.....HTH....c good

Earlier generations magazines had issues.
Look up how to tell them apart so you do not get any of those or you may end up with reliability issues.

Volquartsen makes a hammer and sear for it. Tapco, Promag and Boyds make stock for them I think. But other then that I am not aware of any other aftermarket support.

Personally I would steer you towards the Marlin 795 for the best bang for your buck.

Well this rifle comes with a scope for 199$ its sounds like a great deal.

Look over at rimfire central lots of good stuff on them over there. Nice rifle for sure.

I figured out that mine does not like bulk packed hollow point. I had nothing but problems. Last time I shot it I used cci lr round nose lead and no problems at all. I bought some magazines from keepshooting.com for cheap, built better than factory and work great.

I've own a Remington 597 and it is a very good rifle. I own a Marlin 795 and owned a Ruger 10/22. The 597 feels more like a full size rifle than the Marlin 795.

I've owned my 597 for more than a year now. Shoots very well. Replaced the Remington hammer and extractor with Volquartsen's. The hammer dropped the trigger pull from about 7 lbs to 3.5-4 lbs. I did the extractor while I was doing the hammer, but I wasn't having any feed/extraction problems. Also purchased two of the KeepShooting magazines and have be very pleased with their performance. So tallying up the Volquartsen parts and the magazines I spent $100 extra.

The 597's had a bad rep because of the earlier model magazines but the current generation work fine. The KeepShooting magazines weigh more and feel more solid. Good luck finding a 597 because the place I bought mine had to look to find one.

I got one of the early issued 597s. The first thing you notice is it has a full rifle feel. The early mags had many issues but after a couple of generations they fixed it. My stock 597 is more accurate than any of my stock 1022s except one.
However, I still favor any of my tweaked 1022's over the 597.

love my 597 in 17hmr. as mentioned above, one of my magazine have issues. overall gun is very accurate. it does have extraction problem if you let the chamber gets dirty. It shoots 1moa at 100 yard with stock trigger. have not shoot it since changing to a volquartsen hammer and extractor.
