Break-in needed for 5.56 Ar prior to using 22lr conversion?

Tried to search but couldnt find anything. Do I need to break in the barrel with 5.56 prior to using it with a 22lr conversion? I have a PSA PTAC complete upper I bought during the labor day sale with a 1/9 melonite coated barrel and will be using the CMMG india conversion.
    Thank you

You are not going to have any issues. Put the conversion kit in and blast away. It is reccomend to fire off a couple rounds of .223 after using the conversion to clear the gas tube.

When you consider the relative amount of wear between 5.66 and .22LR, you would have to shoot lots of .22 LR to equal the wear of even 100 rounds of 5.56. So, you are not going to break it in with .22LR........

That said, it would not hurt anything to follow the generally recommended break in procedures with 5.56. Or you can use some of the "bore buffing" abrasive. The idea is to smooth out any rough spots in the barrel. I have used automotive buffing compound with good results - I do about 50 strokes with the "red" compound and about 100 strokes with the "white compound". Do this at your own risk, but it has worked will for me. YMMV.

You may be surprised at how accurate these conversion kits can be. By all rights accuracy should be terrible. There is a long "jump" before the bullet reaches the rifling, the bore is a bit too big and the rifling is much too fast (.22 LR is typically 1 in 16", my AR has a 1 in 9" twist). Yet my kit will shoot .5-1.0 groups at 50 yards - and this is with a brand of HV ammo it likes, not fancy target ammo. I hope yours shoots as well or better!
