Break In Process on GM 18" Bull Barrel

So, I just go my hands on a Green Mountain, 18", Bull Barrel. The barrel came with break in instructions. Basically, fire 5 rounds, clean, fire 10 rounds, clean, and repeat. Advises this process for the first 200 rounds.

My question is... Is this really necessary? Will barrel accuracy/performance suffer if "break in" process is not followed? Or can I just go out and shoot the crap out of my new barrel, and clean as usual?

    Thanks in advance.

He is an anti-gun guy and he said. "Well, you can't eat ammunition". I replied with "When I'm starving to death with a case of ammunition, who's door do you think I am going to knock on?"

I use to do the barrel breakin but after a while it seem like it was just a waste of ammo. I'll shoot maybe 20-30 rounds then run a quick patch.

No! run a few patches through to remove any residue.... lightly oil shoot 30 rounds of X brand ammo run another patch through choose another X brand of ammo to see what brand feels right for your new barrel.. repeat if necessary to find that sweet spot

once you do I clean mine about 1000 rds or so or if I change out for another brand of ammo

            Thanks for input.

Instructions seemed a little "OCD." But, I figured the manufacturer would know their product best.

Thought I'd see what "real world" shooters do.
