Kimber 22 Conversion Kit

Im wanting to buy a 22 pistol just to have some fun. I have a few 1911s and wonder if the Kimber 22 Conversion Kit is the way to go or would you recommend a 22 pistol? Thx for your input.

Needless to say, but for $50 more, you can buy a new 22/45.

I have a conversion and never use it. Well, used it once to try it out. Buy a dedicated .22. You will use it more and be happier.

I had a kimber conversion kit and it never worked on my ria 1911.
The slide would get stuck in the back position and i would have to push it forwards with my thumb. The farthest i got without a jam was one ten round magazine, usually it jammed every other shot. I tried to break it in with a 550 round bulk pack and other assorted brands of quality ammo and gave up around 700 rounds in. Ended up selling it to another calgunner. Eventually bought a ruger mkiii and am completely happy with it.

The kimber kit is excellent. If you love the 1911 then get the kimber kit.

If you are having issues with your kimber kit then switch the orientation of the recoil spring. It's designed for one way only but it's hard to tell the front from the back. Switch it around, trust me!

My kimber kit is now on a dedicated 1911 alloy frame. I LOVE that gun!

I used to have a Ruger Mkii and mkiii and sold them after getting several conversion kits, CZ Kadet, Sig 226 kit and the Kimber kit. All are great but the Kadet is outstanding!

The 22/45 and MK Target series are fairly common in CA.

The advantage of the Kimber kit is it lets you use the same 1911 trigger/grip/frame as your 1911. Not the same recoil as .45 (obviously), but it lets you practice with the same platform.

I have a Kimber conversion that I use on my Kimber 1911, and I like it. The only functional issue is that it does not lock back on the last round. That's not a defect, that's just the way it works.

But if all you are looking for is a .22 pistol, then a separate pistol can be ad for not much more, as long as all you are interested in is plinking (rather than match quality, which would cost more).

Kimber kit is 100% GTG. If you like 45s, you'll love the Kimber kit.

I bought a SA Champion "Loaded" 45 in stainless---this has a 4" barrel and I believe, a frame with a shorter "dust cover"---I am wondering if the Kimber 22 conversion unit will fit my pistol? Kimber says they only care if they work on Kimbers---everything else is a crap shoot.
The only other experience I have with 22 conversion kits is the factory kit for my SIG P210-2 9mm pistol---this fits perfectly, but only functions 100% with CCI Mini Mags or Remington Golden bullets---still good enough to be my favorite 22 pistol---can't remember the last time I had the 9mm top-end on it.
The whole 22 conversion thing seems like a good idea, but like it's been said, you might just want to buy another whole 22 pistol and be done with it...

I have a dedicated Kimber 22 rimfire and its a great gun. Don't believe the Ruger folks. Mine is as accurate if not more than a 22/45 and runs great with CCI blazer, Federal auto and other non-crap ammo. Yes the gun cost more than a 22/45 but I wanted a 1911 style gun not something that was close so for me its paid for itself over and over.

I paid 275$(before DROS/Tax) for my Ruger MKIII 22/45. Ditch the front sight for fiber optics, ditch the mag disconnect, and polish the trigger group. Bam you got yourself a tack driver.

I have a few 1911s myself, including a Kimber TLE. If I was to ever get a 1911 .22 conversion kit, I would save up for a Marvel .22 conversion.
