    Split .17 HMR Cases

I bought 500 rounds of Federal V-Shock ammo and 15 of the first 20 necks were split. I have sent the lot of ammo to Federal for review and they paid for the shipping.
I have attached some pictures of the cases.

Seems to be a common issue with .17 over at RFC

      What did they split in?
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

yea I had some do that to. the ones that I had were Winchester . I think it is just that they did not prep the cases right to hard and they split at the neck.

From the pics, the cases look old and oxidized not bright and shinny. You said they were bought new. Could this be some really old stock? Not that age would make the brass weak. Just an observation.

They were fired and picked up out of the dirt and the sooting form the split neck makes them look bad.

Sounds like it is a Savage 93r issue? That seems like the common denominator here. I have a Marlin 17VX and a Henry Lever .17 and have not had any split casing in about 1,000 rounds down the barrels.... Just an observation...
