    The Rifleman Challenge!

My fellow instructors at Appleseed just put together the following video demonstration, free target, and challenge found here: http://www.riflemanschallenge.com/

Basically, dig out your favorite rifle (doesn't have to be a rimfire, btw), download and print the target, post it at 25 meters and send ten rounds in one minute or less. No bench, no sled, no bags or bipods, just you and your rifle as if you'd been walking through the woods as our forefathers intended.

Post up how you did. Let's see 'em. I'll get one of my own done this weekend if I can squeeze it in to my class at Burro Canyon. Maybe I'll get lucky and do it with my M1 Garand too, or maybe at the Calguns shoot at the end of the month...

Also, don't forget to check out the Rimfire Match threads stickied here. But think of this as a warmup, a friendly challenge. This is all about personal improvement and building confidence. Give it a try!

Thanks! Hopefully I get to the range this weekend and can try it out before Appleseed the following weekend!

awesome site - basic, but enough for me to register for an event!

So who's got targets to share?

I didn't get one done -- busy running the line -- but here's two from our Appleseed last weekend:

This is from one of our students. Would you believe that until this class, he'd never shot a rifle before? Obviously he was listening to our instruction! Rifle is a Beretta ARX-160 rimfire, CCI Mark AR ammunition, stock iron sights, no modifications.

And here's one from one of our Orange Hats. Shot at 3 o'clock was called. Rifle is an "LTR," i.e., Marlin 795 with Tech Sights.

Anybody else? I hope to see a bunch after the next Calguns shoot (Sept 28th at Burro Canyon).

What are the dimensions of each target? I hit PRINT TARGET and I got two targets printed on a standard 8.5"x11" sheet of paper from the printer. Is this the way its supposed to be? Holding that black bull by the POA will be a challenge indeed for these old eyes to get the desired POI @ 25yds . I think I'll try it with my no-sling plastic fantastic 10/22 Carbine w/BSA SS22 set at 9 for assist
I'd rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

You can use a scope if you want. It will help if you can't see the target (it's a small target). It will not help if your hold, NPOA, breathing, trigger control, etc. aren't correct.

Besides, the idea isn't to make the challenge impossible. It's to point out that once upon a time we were a nation of Riflemen, and there were people of all walks of life who could do this. With extremely modest equipment.

Don't be discouraged if you can't. You can. It just takes some work and a lot of persistence.

Good point. It doesn't help if you can't see the target LOL!
