    10/22 Recoil buffer question.

Are they worth putting in? Also if so what's a good brand?

The buffers seem to smooth out the recoil forces since the bolt doesn't slam metal to metal on the backstroke. It is polymer, so I guess it can tear with extended use, so check at each cleaning. Mine is Volquartsen.

I have two 10/22's one with the stock and with an aftermarket the aftermarket one is a small improvement, I mean it is only a $12 part so don’t think that it’s going to make a world of difference but just a slightly noticeable one. I picked up a shim kit for the trigger and the buffer was a package deal.

It stops metal from slamming into metal. There is a negligible, but noticeable (if you're paying close attention) difference in sound, but more importantly, it reduces wear.

I think the Kidd buffer is probably the best (its the only on that metal covered in polymer, which inspires a bit more confidence), followed by pretty much any of the polymer ones. I personally have ProMags because i wanted a spare (and needed 2, they come in 3packs) but I'll go to the Kidd ones IF I ever need to replace them.

They're all really inexpensive, and pretty much any will get the job done.

There's no huge need, but it saves wear and they're super cheap, so why not?

I went with a nylon bolt from Home Depot. I think it cost me .60 cents. The size was 1/4"x3". Just cut to size. The recoil seems a bit softer with less noise as a added bonus.
