OK here's my two cents. I think you should decide what magnification you want. I wouldn't shoot a .22 much more than 100 yards, so the magnification just needs to be at least 6x for me and anything beyond that is nice to be able to spot my own shots easily. I like 3-9 ok even better a 4-12 with a smaller objective like 32 or 40 with low-med rings.

But If the scope ends up being overkill that's fine - move it to another rifle.

    1. WEAVER CLASSIC V 2.5-7x32 model 849399 - Here's the best price I've seen:
(please don't buy them all before I get mine

    2. Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 with Dead Hold Reticle - about $200

    3. Vortex Viper 3-9x40 Riflescope with Dead-Hold BDC Reticle - $250-$300

You can get the Vortex at Glen's too or Cabela's - I got mine at Cabela's.

BTW. I don't have any of those on mine... I have an old Simmons 44mag 6.5-20x44 on mine right now.

Quite impressed with this Nikon. Really like the 40mm view, and would save me a hundred bucks... Forgot to mention I'd prefer a larger view for hunting and the increased light. 40mm would be perfect, 30+mm would also be a preference.

So I'm waiting on picking up my new 10/22 and my next purchase is going to be a scope. I'm not looking to go crazy but I don't want a POS either. My price range I'll say is between $200-$250 and my only requirements are: matte finish, waterproof, fog proof. The reticule I'm flexible on but would prefer a larger FOV 32mm+. It will be used at the range, in the desert, and in the snow, so let's hear what you guys have to say...
For a 22LR hunting/plinking scope I suggest a Weaver Classic Rimfire RV7 2.5-7x28 (no AO means faster on target). The Weaver Classic rimfire scopes the best quality sub $150 rimfire hunting scopes that I've seen, although the much larger Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 Rimfire w/BDC is pretty darn good if you don't mind the size. Both run about $150 or so. A nice step up from both is Leupold's $220 VX-1 2-7x28 rimfire.

For a target scope I like a Weaver Classic Rimfire RV9 3-9x32 w/AO or a Weaver Classic V16 4-16x42 w/AO but the V16 is a bit over budget. An Adjustable objective (AO) allows you to more finely focus on the target while at the same time dial out parallax errors. I run Weaver V24 6-24x42 scopes on a couple of my throughly tricked out benchrest builds and like them a lot but again it's over budget and a bit of overkill unless you've built a benchrest rifle.

Check out some of the Millet scopes on Optics Planet.
I have a few of these and have been happy with them.
Also check out burris and redfield, good quality at an affordable price.
What magnification were you looking for?
