Another help me with a scope thread..

    For my 10/22...

So I'm waiting on picking up my new 10/22 and my next purchase is going to be a scope. I'm not looking to go crazy but I don't want a POS either. My price range I'll say is between $200-$250 and my only requirements are: matte finish, waterproof, fog proof. The reticule I'm flexible on but would prefer a larger FOV 32mm+. It will be used at the range, in the desert, and in the snow, so let's hear what you guys have to say...

Everyone's just going to list what they like..

But since you have a decent price point I would suggest:
      Nikon
      Mueller
      Vortex

IMO it's a little crazy that the scope will be as expensive as the gun if you spend that much. I am looking as well and seems like you can get a decent enough scope for ~$50. Besides did you have anything else you needed? Cleaning and lubricant? Case? Sling?

Spending more on the scope than the rifle is not uncommon. For $200-$250 you can get some good scopes, the Nikons, Vortex mentioned above plus Burris, etc

$50 gets you a disposable scope because that what you'll do with it when you get to be a good shot with your rifle.

The old rule is spend as much on the scope as you do the rifle.
But imo that is not as true anymore.

Check out the Nikon Prostaff 3x-9x-40mm rimfire. Its a great scope for the money. I've had three friends buy one after they tried mine. It retails for $149 but you can get it for $115-130 shipped if you shop around.

+1 for the Nikon 3-9x 40mm. I have two other rifles with other brand scopes.
Not high end, but not cheapos either. What a joy it is to look thought the
                Nikon after using those.

My vote goes for the Leupold or Weaver 2x7. I went with the Leupold. Compact and light. Great glass thats certainly within your budget.

I have multiple firearms already so I'm pretty well stocked up on CLP & slings. The only other items I'll need for this rifle are a bi-pod, cleaning kit, & case.

Nikon buckmasters 6-18x40 w/ target turrets. I've seen them as low as 229. I have one, great scope. Wish I had bought the mildot reticle though.

Lots of good recommendations (except the $50 one). OP never mentioned the use for the rifle/scope. 3-9X is fine for hunting plinking, up to 16-18X for target shooting @ 50 yds, 24-36X for 100yds and beyone. Weaver, Nikon, Burris, Vortex have great offerings. For low cost I would suggest Mueller or Vortex Crossfire II and are the only Chinese made scopes that I would buy.

No BSA, Tasco, Truglo or any other Chinese made scope. They will disappoint sooner or later, ask me how I know. Owned and sold all of them. They work for a while, have crappy glass and pitiful turrets with plastic gears. OK for set and forget plinking use but that's seldom the case as you shooting skills grow.
