    Bought my 1st 10/22 today for $219!

Got it at turners in San diego. I have other firearms but this is my 1st .22, should save me some loot on ammo and hopefully bag a rabbit or two. Very excited!

Congrats, wise choice, be careful these things have a habit of attracting many after market parts.

Make sure you get a Volquartsen extractor to replace the factory Ruger one. Otherwise, you will experience stovepipes now and then. Other than that, you should be good to go!

Nice! It's going to be tough looking for reasonable priced .22lr ammo in San Diego

They come from the factory with an aftermarket parts magnet embedded in the receiver...

                  Congrats on your 10/22!

thanks for the heads up on the extracter upgrade, i'll do that 1st. My sks stove pipes and it drives me nuts! I'm also going to do a weaver rail and a 3-9x 32mm AO scope too.

Confratulations, I still have one that I bought almost 30 years ago and it looks and functions like new.
I have put countless thousands of rounds thru it and no problems.

Four things worth doing to every 10/22. (the list if different if you're serious about competition or hardcore upgrades, but these make a big difference to every 10/22)

                            1) Aftermarket recoil buffer pin. (The simple plastic ones are fine, like from Speed Beez, the Kidd ones are better, either is fine) $10 or less.

                            2) Aftermarket magazine release button. Speed Beez. (Volquartsen is good too but overkill for a simple part) $16

                            3) Send your trigger group to Brimstone for a tier 3 trigger job. $35.

                            4) Adding swivels for a sling is a good idea, too. Uncle Mike's kits work well and are easy to install. (I prefer the wider 1.25" slings but Amazon doesn't seem to carry that version... they're widely available, normally). Under $12.

Many people will tell you the auto bolt release is a must, too, but I never found it necessary. RTFM and practice a few times and you'll learn to use the factory release just fine. If you decide you want the mod, and can handle using a small file (a couple bucks at Harbor Freight if you don't have one), the stock part is super easy to modify yourself, just file off one little metal bit and you're set. Note that Brimstone will do this for you as part of the trigger job, unless you ask them not to. So definitely no need to spend more money on a new part unless you're ignoring my earlier advice.

I have 4 10/22s with stock extractors and in thousands of rounds I have had zero stovepipes, zero failures to eject, zero failures to feed.
