    Old vs new 10/22

I just bought a new 10/22 synthetic stock, barrel & trigger group from a member to convert one of my 10/22's back to a regular 10/22 my old trigger group is cast I'd guess aluminum but the new is poly of some sort how long has Ruger been making a poly trigger group? My old is from 1985.

Per Gunblast.com, change to Poly was ~2009.
I have a 2002 and it is metal (ano aluminum)

A couple of years back, a friend bought one of the newer 10-22s on my recommendation---this rifle shoots just fine and is not inferior to my much older pre-warning 10-22.

Poly trigger group is totally good to go, and fine, per the people who would probably know as well or better than anyone else (other than Ruger):

Change over was approx 2007, they say. (and Brimstone does more 10/22 trigger jobs than almost anyone out there)

there has been some improvements the polymer trigger group is better but the plastic barrel band is not better

the extended mag release is nice but i find the angle ruger made it is not as good as the ramline one

they have had many little tweaks over the years

the original ones didn't have sharpened firing pins and that sometimes caused misfires

ive never liked the bolt hold open it just seems like an afterthought

I'd agree the plastic barrel band is not "better" but it's such a meaningless part I'm not sure it really matters. There is zero stress on the plastic so if the metal was stronger (unknown, could go either way) it wouldn't make a difference. If you're serious about performance and high accuracy you'll be freefloating the barrel anyway.

Regardless, however, the OP was about trigger groups, completely unrelated to other parts.

The cast ones are worth some money if you don't need it.

I ended up using the poly trigger group, synthetic stock including the plastic barrel band. My intent was to have a durable knock around 10/22 for my RV I'm going to toss this into a closet along with a brick just in case we stop someplace I need to plink.
I do have the 85 trigger group but nothing to put it in

On a whim I sold my pair of early 10-22s Figured I'd replace one when the4 year old grand son out grows his little Browning take down. Now that they have cheapened it so much I'll pass. Maybe a Henry to match his old model Ruger Bearcat.

There's more plastic but they still shoot great. Don't let a little bit of (really high tech) plastic scare you off!
