    First Purchase

Just ordered my first two firearms. A Henry Goldenboy 22LR and a Marlin Model 60. On their way from Gander Mtn to my local FFL now

        Congrats!
But you couldn't find those local?
Hope your FFL does not kill you with out of state transfer fees...

I don't know much about the marlin, but you will have a blast with the Henry! They are a lot of fun, and still pretty cheap to shoot.

          Sorry, not sorry.

Dear autocorrect, I'm really getting tired of your shirt!

I am partial to the bolt guns- Got a Savage MKII FV, and an older Marlin 25N. The Marlin has wood stock that is in mint condition and the bolt is SUPER smooth. Both are a blast.

I have seen them local, but nothing available today, and I asked both gun ranges in town to look. No luck. I think I'll get hit with Use Tax when I pick them up, but they were shipped with no sales tax. I couldn't decide b/w 10/22 and Model 60. I hate filling the 10 round mags on the 10/22 so I went for the tube fed Marlin. I've never shot one though.

I also don't like that the guns the the store are dry fired, and handled but lots of people b/f they sell. Wanted my Goldenboy new in box.

I know I need to pay the use tax, and DROS. What else should I expect local FFL to charge me to handle the paperwork on the 2 rifles I'm shipping to them from Gander Mtn?

The out of state fee is unregulated unlike the DROS fee which is a set fee.
The shop that receives your rifles can decide to charge you whatever you want.
Typically its about 60 per firearm on the low end and I have seen up to 150 per firearm. (sometimes you can find an FFL that is lower)

Might want to contact the FFL you had them sent to and see what their policy is.

Thank you. I'm having it shipped to the local range/gun store I go to. I get my $ worth out of them. I've been going about 5 times a week to shoot, they let members use their pistols for free, and even give me free ammo when only Match Grade is in stock. I can live with it if they charge a little more for the transfer.

Yup they are the true King of Semiautomatic 22LR. Been around a couple years more then the 10/22 and have sold millions more. The Marlin 795 is just a magazine fed version of the 60. I love my 795s

Great choices. I am partial to tube fed bolt rifles. Although, I have been checking out the lever action rim fires. Just can't justify the cost of it.

That is quite true. Local transfer fees are ridiculous. It really ticks me off. =/
