    Winchester 490

I just picked up a Winchester 490 - rimfire lookalike to the centerfire 100 and lever action 88. Can anyone tell me how to disassemble to the point of removing the bolt? I get as far as loosening the trigger housing unit but it won't pull free. I'm thinking the the magazine housing has to also be removed, but am not sure.

Also, magazines for the 52, 69, 75 and others won't fit due to the little "stud" on the right hand side of the stamped metal mag body - doesn't work on the 470. Has anybody had success modifying a 52 magazine (repro) and using it in the 490? A 5 round magazine is OK for a bolt, but for the 490 it's a little too little.

They look pretty close, what's the purpose of the stud, and can you grind it off? I see 10rnd 490 mags for sale on fleabay.

The Winchester 52, 69, 75 mag release operates from the side - much like the AR 15. That stud is what keeps the mag in place. The 490 mag release operates from the back, like a Mini 14, and doesn't have that stud.

When Winchester made the 490 they used a metal housing unit that doesn't allow a 52, 75 mag to slide in - because of that stud on the side.

Considering that 52s, 75s and the rest have been around for a long, long time (and the 490 has not) I thought someone might have come up with a way to use 52 mags in the 490, and for less $$$.
