Got My 1022 Barrel Shortened & Crowned

Just a hair longer than 16"
Took it out today; still shoots straight!
All in all, I'm happy with it.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

              Troy T-22

It's a bit pricey, but worth it IMO
It has the Standard Troy flip up sights integrated into the top rail. All aluminum construction, accepts standard milspec AR buffer tubes and pistol grips that don't have the extra palm swell. It free floats the barrel.

My one minor complaint would be the gap between the grip and trigger guard, but its purely cosmetic.

Did the re-crowning increase accuracy or ??? Appears to be nice work.

I don't shoot match grade stuff nor am I a hardcore precision shooter, so I wouldn't be able to say definitively, but it certainly didn't decrease accuracy. No noticeable change. Theoretically I lost some long range accuracy because of a slight loss in velocity by shortening the barrel length.

@ 25yds with some nasty old Rem golden bullets, I was hitting a 1 inch orange pastie all day using a scope at 9X

According to the experts a .22lr HV bullet attains maximum velocity somewhere between 14 and 16 inches depending on which expert you choose to believe. I have a rifle with a 28" barrel and thru testing with a chronograph a 1080fps .22lr round looses around 50fps when the same ammo is shot from a rifle with an 18" barrel. Real world result.

I think if you're shooting at 150-200 yards tops, you should be good.

Thanks for sharing, that's good and reassuring info for me. An older gent at the range shooting a 20" rifle gas AR said he wouldn't have shortened his 1022 bc of velocity this velocity that.

I'm assuming that applies to the 18"~ bull barrels then?

I don't think a heavy barrel makes any difference in velocity, so you should be good assuming the info above is accurate..

I've also read somewhere that you shouldn't free float a heavy barrel 22; I don't know the reasoning, and it could be complete fud.
