If I am left Eye dominant, should be I teaching myself to shoot a rifle left handled?

Well -- I wear glasses already. Don't want to tape them up. They cost more than most firearms. Maybe a pirate eye patch?

Trust me don't tape the whole lens up just a strip of tape maybe a 1/2 or 5/8 of a inch long, it's just enough to force the right eye to do its work, there are stick on bullseye looking devices that work, but the tape works for me. I wear glasses also but use prescription safety glasses for shooting.

Thanks. Maybe I'll just use the masking tape at the range and tape my left eye closed! Or learn to shoot rifles lefty. When I shoot a pistol, I naturally close my right eye, and shoot with my left.

My father-in-law and son are left eye dominant.

My son uses a trs25 red dot to "compensate" for it and keep him interested and enjoying it while keeping a proper cheek weld on the stock. I stopped trying to force him to use his right eye because he might lose interest out of frustration. When he gets a little bigger and stronger he can figure it out for himself. Right now he shoots off the bench with bags.
My father-in-law shoots left handed on rifles. Definitely an advantage when changing mags on an AR with a bullet button. When my son's a little bigger Grandpa can help him figure it out.

Thank you. I think I'm just gonna start shooting lefty. My right arm is a little stronger, so it might help. I will just take some getting use to.

I don't use masking tape, it's scotch tape that is frosty or opaque. Don't like the glue in most masking tape that may be bad on a lens.

I'm left-eye dominant as well. Never had to do the tape thing though. I started out on rifles just closing my left eye and using my right to aim.

Getting easier to shoot with both eyes open though

I'm left-eye dominant and shoot rightie. Never paid any attention to it, and I shoot better than most I've met. I don't think it means much to worry about this.

I have never met anyone in person who is cross dominant and switched. It is something I have only read about. I have never even heard a first hand account. I am cross dominant. It doesn't matter for pistols and shotguns. With rifles, it isn't a big deal. Just concentrate on the fundamentals and shoot.

It is easier to change hands than eyes. I find I am much faster and more accurate if I use the hand on the side of my dominate eye for shooting rifle and handgun. There are many different degrees of dominance in eyes and hands. Try both ways and see which see which you like better.
