Hey everyone, I am having trouble with something and I thought id ask you guys. A while back I convinced my wife to let me get another gun. I decided that I wanted something I could really put to use at the range, and given ammo prices, a .22 sounded like my best choice. I wanted semi auto, and I really wanted to go tacti-cool because I love tinkering and customizing. Initially I was going with a 10/22 because of the glowing reviews and endless options. With the craziness happening, I switched my train of thought to building an ar-15 .22 so that I could have a lower receiver in case they were outlawed down the road, and I'd like to have the option for a bonafide .223 later on. I bought all the parts I would need, minus the upper. (I went with the polymer80 lower fyi, very exciting stuff and anyone interested in having a gun that uncle Sam can't steal from you should check out the thread in this forum)
My question is this: why does an ar-15 .22lr upper cost twice as much as an entire 10/22, which everyone agrees is a quality rifle? I have found a Chiappa .22 upper on lanbos for $260; but even then I'm still spending as much as a whole ruger rifle. I can't seem to figure out why these uppers aren't $150 max. And god forbid I go with a cmmg, then I'm looking at $350+!
I'm not a noob to the gun world, but I'm by no means a veteran. I own several guns, but I can't seem to justify the price difference here. Please enlighten me.
Thanks,
Vincent
P.s. in case anyone is thinking of doing the same, I went with a p-tac lpk from Palmetto state, which is $40 right now, making the build minus the upper $190.
