Too much of a mess if it pops open when used for loose rounds. The water bottles are more secure and provide much better protection from the elements if the bag takes a dunking.

i cleaned out medium size gatorade bottles and topped off several .22 bulk boxes , i also put a few silica packets in randomly long term storage, instead of the green/yellow remington cardboard boxes

*when Im at the range I just pour out smaller amount onto the bottle top* (saving the silica for next time)
      I mainly shoot .22lr, 9mm,45 acp, 357 & 38, 12G, 7.62x39, .308, .223/556, 7.62x54r, 300 win mag, 8x57

What about just carrying rounds in 55 mags? Will that fit?

Sounds interesting, can you post a picture of what you are talking about.

I don't have a Takedown. Yet. But I'm liking this thread. Keep the great ideas coming.

I finally got around to getting a paintball pod for my ammo storage. I got this one from Amazon for $5. It fit my 525 round box of golden bullets with a little room to spare. This paintball pod and a quick detach bipod fit great into the same pouch in the Ruger Takedown bag.

I still want to find some of those water bottles though since they are only 99 cents, have the twist cap, and should be waterproof.

Screw top pill bottles are good ones too. Get friendly with the old fart in your hood and he will give you some. I go through a lot of them.
