    Marlin 795 jamming issues.

I took my 795 to two Appleseed shoots and it would choke on me, mostly on magazines that didn't start off with 10 rounds in it (Appleseed has strings of fire with a 2 round and 8 round loaded magazine). extremely frustrating in a timed event. I had to keep an extra magazine on the mat with a few rounds for the eventual jamming.

After the first shoot, I disassembled and cleaned the rifle, and even sanded down the rough spots in the receiever (they barely touched the action, but I smoothed it all up). Still no dice.

I actually went and bought a 10/22 take down to see if it was better.

I was shooting Federal Bulk the first day, then Federal Automatch the next day. Same jamming. I DID NOT try CCI Minimags because by then they became Unicorns.

What are common causes for marlin's jamming? I looked at the ejector wire and it looks like it is where it should be.

The jams were like the bullets weren't going into the chamber, and when I'd "rack them out" they had marks on them...is the bolt scoring the top rounds out of the magazine when it chambers the previous round?

I haven't shot it in a while, but thought I'd ask if this was common and what might help.

Oh, and the 795, when was DEAD ACCURATE at 25 meters. I managed to score a "Rifleman's score" with it, despite the unreliability.

But I have to say, it's very disconcerting to have an unreliable rifle. It's fine just plinking but the time pressure of the Appleseed shoot made me not feel so nice about the 795.

Even though I shot the score, I might go back with the 10/22 with Tech sights on it to see how I do with irons versus scope, though to be honest without the scope the targets were tiny.

There was a thread about the rounds being scraped, but not picked up, by the bolt. While I'm trying to find it, I'm assuming you took it apart and cleaned it (if it was new)?

I found the post I was looking for, but the person who asked never reported back about what the outcome was. You didn't kink the recoil spring while cleaning it, did you? How much lube did you use on the action? Most 795's like to be run on the drier side, but when mine would get finicky, a shot of CLP in the action would fix the problem. I run mine wetter now. Might look at the feed ramp too and make sure there isn't a little burr.

If it's fairly new, call customer support. My 795 was a jam o matic (fail to extract mostly) until I sent it in for warranty service. They had to work the chamber and bolt, when it came back to me it shot great. No picky ammo issues and not a failure since (except for one round that was a dud).
