I have used a Simmons and a Weaver and have been happy. I do not get the AO model especially for kids and even for myself. Use the K.I.S.S. principle.

Bushnell banner scopes. Most under $100 and made for real firearms. I got a 3-9X40 MZ-2000 that is made for muzzle loaders. Its built tough and has a BDC.

Simmons 3x9x32 AO is just what you're describing as being in your zone.
You and your young shooter will be very happy.

I picked up the Simmons 22 mag scope from Amazon for my 10/22.

Scope comes with a set of rings, so should fit your stated requirements with $ to spare.

The prices on Amazon fluctuates, so if you are not in a rush, add it to your cart and monitor the price changes until it gets to a pricepoint that works for you.

As a data point, I picked mine up about a month and half ago for $31 (freeshipping) from Amazon.

            Good Luck!

My vote also goes to Nikon ProStaff, but if you really want to keep it under 100 bucks, here is what I would go with:

Rings that you can still use irons with:
                Weapons Case Hotwire Foam Cutting

Centerpoint from Wallyworld is a great deal for the money.

                    Surprisingly clear.

Check your local store. Online it doesnt even ship from wally world...and the price is higher.

Ive got a Bushnell 3-9x Ill sell you for cheap. Its basically brand new, I took it off my Savage before even shooting it. PM me if you are interested.

Otherwise Id go with a Bushnell Banner scope. Its what I have on my 10/22 and its been great.
