10/22 pre ban high capacity magazine swap out?

I have a purchased new by me before Jan. 1, 2000 but now internally broken Shooters Ridge 30 round pre ban magazine for my Ruger 10/22. Can I replace it with a more modern post ban Ruger BX-25 and maintain legality here in California? Grandfathered?

Can you change out the parts? You might want to look into finding a Tactical Innovations parts kit and switch out the spring and mag body while keeping your old follower and feed lips. Or, something like that.

From your wording it sounds like the magazine might be old but you might have bought it recently??? You personally have to have owned the magazine in California before Jan 1st, 2000. California doesn't really have the concept of a pre or post ban magazine in the same way the Federal law did.

re: replacing it with a BX-25 some people get more loosy goosy than others about this. It's easier with ARs where you could possibly replace the components one at a time and end up with a PMAG or other modern magazine. With the 10/22 magazines unless there's a common part you would have to stretch the definition of "repair" past what most people are comfortable with, although there's somebody who's going to chime in, "sure, smash the old one into pieces, stir in the Ruger parts, and build it back up using the working parts..."
