My experience with the phoenix arms hp22a

I'd like to start of by saying this gun was purchased used and i don't know how many rounds have been through it so far.

The model i picked up is a matte black version with the short barrel, it came with the box, cleaning tools, and one mag.

When i took it home after my transfer period at riflegear the first thing i did was the safety mods. I clipped and filed the corner on the safety switch, and removed that lever that prohibits free fall of the magazine. Once this was done i really enjoyed this gun in my hand. The mag would fly out when the release was pressed, the slide functioned more like that of a typical pistol.

After the first range trip my biggest complaint was reloading...why do i only have one mag? The short barrel makes for good practice at a short distance but hey I'm a beginner. So the next step for me was to get the upgrade, 5 inch barrel and extra mage with finger extension. Got it. Hit the range today and ate a whole federal value pack between a 10/22, woodsman, and the hp22a. Maybe it was because my 10/22 was having issues i noticed last range trip, but in major contrast i realized that i couldn't remember a single ftf or fte or any jamming from the little cheepy lol.

Just my luck? I guess ill see.

Mine has also been trouble-free. I bought it because I wanted to show support for a California gun maker. I need to do the mods to allow "normal" operation.

I have done the mods on mine. An honestly I couldn't be happier with it. I have had no issues with it except when it gets too dirty.

I take 5 pistols to my range therapy. 3 mags each and I shoot this in between the other 4 guns. I have gotten my moneys worth out of it. I just do not like reloading the mags.

Before I would shoot more out of my 45, 9mm's and .38 so it has already paid for itself. My cousin liked mine so much he got one too. He had not reported any issues. Its cheap but it works.

Yeah the feed lips do some work to the fingers. If you haven't tried the longer barrel it really improves the accuracy, while still keeping it somewhat compactish. Anyway fun plinker. Has anyone tried the .25 cal version? My Lil sis got one as a college present from dad but it hasn't been shot. Just wondering if they are comparable.

Be careful. Unless you use standard velocity ammo, you will eventually crack the frame. I cracked the frame one of the two I have owned. Phoenix took care of me but it was a long process that took over 7 months.

I have heard plenty about the frame cracks and I'm not to worried about it with such an inexpensive plinker. I will have to check the ammo box to answer you question though...how do you tell from the ammo box? It says high velocity so I know its not the standard velocity I should be using, but what the hell I can afford another one I guess.

I had 2 Phoenix HP 22 and they were solidly reliable! For the price, they are great fun and deserve a slot in your gun safe. I'm looking to buy another one next time Turners has them on sale.

I love mine and for the price you sort of have to buy one. Got mine brand new, gave the Guy two bills and got enough change for two pizzas and a case of beer! No problems yet with it(I've also been using overpowered ammo).

I love my little phoenix I've ran federal match target ammo through it without a hiccup, for the money you can't beat it.
