I just picked up a Winchester 490 and am looking for some info on reliability, what works well for ammo.
I assume this takes the same magazine as the 75, 52 and the rest, correct?
I bought the rifle because I have a 1st year Winchester 88 and a Winchester 100. This will be the rimfire companion to each of the centerfires. The Winchester 88 is a challenge to takedown and reassemble, so I'm wondering if the 490 shares this trait.
I notice the rifle I bought has an asterisk after the serial number. I've read this means the rifle was returned to the factory under a general recall due to slamfire in some 490s. Does anyone have further info on that issue?
Any experience on this model would be appreciated.
