To complete the rebuild of my dad's winchester 69 bolt action rifle. Pics to come later.
Many years ago one of my older brothers decided to "redo" the stock on this vintage bolt action. In the process, he lost the bolt, magazines, magazine receiver plate and the buttplate. He did sand the stock, mostly. When he realized he had lost the mentioned items, he gave up on the project.
Cue me, 35+ years later, and I find the rifle in the back of a closet. I put it away for a time as I couldn't find a bolt. Been looking for it for years. Finally after missing out on a few auctions, due to my own forgetfullness and a few more due to cost, I thought I had found it. And I ordered it from Classic Firearms and Parts LLC, http://cfnparts.com/index.php.
Unfortunately, due to my poor recollection (I should have checked the rifle first, instead of relying on my memory), I ordered the wrong one. A model 69A rather than a model 69. Excited to receive the bolt (which BTW, was sent out the same day I ordered it from CFP) I tried it in the rifle. It did not work. I looked over the rifle, and realized (due to the lack of a side mounted safety catch) that I had ordered the wrong bolt!
I fully expected to have to resell the bolt because it was my error, not CFP's. I called Scott back and asked if he had a 69 bolt. Fortunately he did! I explained my dumba** mistake and to my surprise he said he would make an exchange for me!! I just needed to send the bolt back (with a check for shipping, again, my fault so I was still elated), and he would ship me the correct bolt. I shipped it back on 7/8, and got the correct one today!
So, I will be refinishing the stock, and installing the new parts to complete the rifle.
I must give a shout out to Scott at CFP (http://cfnparts.com/index.php), and say thanks for the great service! If you need parts, check out his sight. He is friendly and helpful! AND, when I called, he answerd the phone himself!!
******update******
I had to order a couple of screws that I couldn't find at home. Called Scott and he had then in stock (originals, not repros). Ordered on Wednesday, got them today!
Fast service and shipping!
****update****
Here are some before pics. Basically what I will be doing is refinishing the stock, and putting the parts backs in it. I may have to fix a couple of stripped screw holes too.
I'll update with after pics when I'm done.
