    Ruger 10/22 cleaning help

    Hi all,
I am relatively new to calguns. Always stood alongside and read threads. Finally created my account. I am a newbie. So i thank you ahead of time for the help.
I bought my 10/22 about a month ago. Probably only put 50 rounds through it. With the gun i bought a cleaning kit (dont know if that was my best move), but regardless i have it and want to know how to properly clean the bore and other parts. First off, heres the link to the cleaning kit i purchased...ID=57http://www.tetraproducts.com/product_view.asp?ID=57
Ive watched videos on how to clean my 10/22 from ruger. But they use solvent (Don't know if the triple action is the solvent) and oil (Dont think its the same as the "grease" that comes with the kit).
Thank you in advance for your help!

Kits fine but with only 50 rounds just wipe it down and put it away, don't over clean it.

I have a 10/22 I bought new in 1977 ,it has probably been cleaned 5 times. Yes it gets used in 2010 the extractor fell out because it was worn out. $13.00 for the Volquartson extractor and 10 minutes later I was ready to shoot. Keep it lubed and don't wear the rifle out from over cleaning.

I just use CLP, paper towels, a toothbrush, some q-tips, and a bore snake. add some gun oil on the bolt after its clean. grease should work but dont put a lot.

Basically use the CLP and paper towels to clean the entire chamber and the bolt, q-tips to get in the tight spots. Then run a bore snake or rod with some CLP in the barrel.

If you use the rod i think you have to put the rod through the end of the barrel first, then attach the brush on the chamber side, then pull the brush through, remove brush, repeat. I have a take down so not exactly sure. Oh then you have to run patches til its clean. Bore snakes are the easiest.

I have thousands of rounds down my rimfire barrels. Keep the chamber clean every 4-500 rounds on your 10-22 with this, or make one.

I run spray dry film lube in all my rimfires, no oil means no mud to clean up. The dry lube keeps it working great. I just clean the chamber and bolt face, then a couple spritzes into the area between the roof of the receiver and top of bolt, couple on bottom of bolt and rails, good to go. I don't have to pull anything apart. Liquid wrench is my weapon of choice, and it's inexpensive and available lots of places. Don't clean the barrel unless the accuracy drops off, and just bore snake it, no rods needed. Good shooting.

Triple action spray qualifies as CLP right? And should I leave anything in the barrel? Or just go through until it comes out clean? Thanks.

Also, if I haven't "greased" up the bolt should I do that before I go shooting on the morrow?

dry lube ... oil can make a paste of the gritty rimfire dust

                    Pull though or rod?

Should I stick to a pull through cleaning kit for the 10/22? I can take the barrel off to use a cleaning rod but don't I have to re sight the scope?

I wouldn't remove the barrel. Usually a boresnake is all you need to clean a 10/22. If you remove the trigger group, be aware that the pins can fall out fairly easy so do it over a table or bench.

I won't bad mouth a kit - but I would use the parts and get a small bottle of Hoppe #7 to clean.

Be sure to drop the stock from the rest of the rifle as any chemicals will kill the finish.

Ruger 1022s need to be cleaned too. Breaking it down to do it is easy. Your cleaning schedule is dictated by how dirty the ammo is.
Old toothbrush, bore snake, brake cleaner and dry lube of your choice. Plus a screw driver.
