savage rascal peep rear sight question

Just bought my son a Savage Rascal. Whats up with the rear peep sight? I cant seem to see anything through it. Are my eyeballs too big? Any help would be appreciated. It just seems like a pin hole to see anything through. I looked directly at an overhead light and only see light but nothing able to focus on. Can the elevation be unset by the factory? Regardless I should be able to see something right?

How large is your aperture sight? My match BRNO Rear Aperture sight has a 1mm hole and I see through it and shoot at an indoor range just fine.

You should just be able to see through it. Of course if your cheek weld isn't right, it's not going to line up with your eyeball. Beyond that, you just look through it.
