    Glenfield/marlin model 70, help please

So my dad has a glenfield model 70, mag fed, .22 rifle. Im guessing a pre 68 since i cannot find a serial number on it. That hadn't been shot in a very long time. Last time we went out he brought it and there were all kinds of FTF and FTE. So when I went for a visit today I asked him if I could take it home and take a look at it.

Well i tore it down today and sure enough the whole interior of the rifle was caked full of grime and crap, what appeared to be years worth. So I called him up and he told me he doesn't know if its ever been apart maybe since he was a kid. So I scrubbed and cleaned everything up to inspect it and found a couple problems. Though I'm guessing all the crap built up inside was what it was acting up.

I've never had one of these apart before so I watched some videos and read a little and noticed two things. 1) 3 of the e clips that retain the hammer and sear pins in the trigger assembly plates are missing. And 2) the bolt buffer is badly cracked.

So I searched online and found the buffers at brownells and ordered a couple. Now the e clips I can't find anywhere...

Question 1: Does anyone know if I can find something that will match the missing e clips at a local hardware store?

Question 2: I'd like to add one of the picatinny rails that slip on and set screw to the dovetail of the receiver from DIP inc. but I can't figure out which one I'm supposed to order, does anyone have experience with this? Link: (rails are on page two) http://www.diproductsinc.com/Products.aspx?CAT=3603

Thank you in advance for any help.

The 70 is the predecessor to the 795. So pretty much everything in the 795 Megathread linked in my sig applies to it.

    Yes definitely replace the buffer.

Missing just one clip could make them unreliable. All 3 definitely...
The smaller e-clip size is 3/32. Yes they can be found at a good local hardware store.

Personally I would not add a picatinny rail. It is just going to raise the reddot/scopes height for no good reason.

Might be easy to order e-clips on line. Any Industrial Supply house will have clips.

Thanks for the advice chaos and slacker. Stopped by ace hardware today when I was out and they had a bin full of 3/32 e clips so I grabbed a few. Now I just have to wait for my buffers to show up so I can see if she runs any better.

15011 Pre 2005 part should work for the rail. If the Jesus clips from Ace dont fit Let me know,Ive got a few set back. The early guns can be fun! Ive got a few of them. They did make a Model 70HC [ for High Capasity ] that came with 25 round mags. But the mags are now worth more than the guns. DR
