    Ruger 10-22 vs Marlin 795

Kind of in a situation where I want to purchase a .22lr semi-automatic today or in the very near future. I can purchase a Ruger 10-22 for 259.99 before tax and drops or a marlin 795 for 199.99 before tax and dros. I have researched a lot, but cannot make up my mind. I hope someone can help with their suggestions. I have found that I am not that much into customizing my rifles, but I like the fact that the ruger 10-22 has a lot of aftermarket parts if needed. In contrast I like the last shot bolt open for the marlin 795.

come on, this question again? Search for all the other times it's come up. You're already aware of the differences. Neither one would be a mistake. Just pick one.

You should be able to find a 795 for less than $159. I just bought a marlin 60 at Sportsmans Warehouse for that. I had seen a 795 there for $149 two weeks ago.

You will eventually end up with both, so really does not matter which to pick today.

Get the Marlin.....I have both and that Marlin is the Cat's Pajamas. Accurate, cheap and well made.

I always suggest the Marlin. They are great and accurate right out of the box. Nothing wrong with the Ruger but I always prefer the Marlin.

+1 on Marlin. My local Dick's has it for only $159

Easy enough to add a bolt hold open, or anything else you can dream of, to a 10/22. Probably the biggest after market of any firearm besides maybe an AR. BTW I have and like both.
                    Out of the box--Marlin.
                    If you like to tinker--10/22.

I have the Marlin, it is crazy accurate. I have some jamming issues with mine though. I bought a 10/22 TD due to the novelty of it, but the T/D feature kind of kills it for a lot of aftermarket stuff.

But really, what aftermarket stuff do you really want? The Marlin is very accurate so what more can you ask of a gun? (Well for me reliability, but mine might be a bit of a lemon).

                        Marlin 795:

The only 'upgrade' is the Boyd's stock. I was fighting the eye relief on the scope, and the bipod was taken off as the target was too low and I couldn't get low enough to see it comfortably.

I am very big on reliability. I want to make sure my gun is not a lemon and if it is I want to be able to get it fixed/get parts to fix it.

Neither of my 795 have ever had a failure to feed, fire or extract and we are talking multiple thousands of rounds thru each.

And about the aftermarket parts, the only factory parts I have left in mine are the Barrel/Receiver and the Bolt/Action.

I assume you have seen the Marlin 795 Megathreads right? If not check the link in my sig.
