Henry Golden Boy - thoughts? Comments? Reviews?

Hi all - I was browsing the LGS the other day, and while looking at levers in general, saw a Henry Golden Boy. Beautiful rifle, but I was wondering just how easily that "Brasslite" receiver scratches. I'm not planning to carry it in the field or anything, and it will in all likelihood be a range queen, but it would be nice of that shiny receiver managed to be tough and scratch-resistant as well.

From my handling of it, it felt quite heavy compared to what I was expecting.
    "Two dead?!? HOW?!?"
[sigh] "Bullets, mortar fire, heavy artillery salvos, terminal syphilis, bad luck --- the usual things, Captain."

Shot one my buddy bought the other day. Very nice gun. That said, I can shoot the Browning BLR faster. I think the Henry is more accurate. I want one...

I have one thats about 10 years old. Don't polish it! My receiver discoloured so I called Henry after about 7 years and they sent me a brand new one no questions asked. Don't remember it scratching though. Very sweet .22. Smooth as mglass and very accurate. A definite keeper.

Just got one out of jail. I also have a Golden 39A, the Henry action is much smoother. Haven't got to shoot the Henry yet, but it will likely have a hard time matching the 39A's accuracy. The scope base for the Henry is a little funky looking it you decide to put a scope on it, but a scope would go against the grain of the Henry style anyway.

I had a chance to buy one but bought the h001 instead. I was worried about scratching the brass lite. It's a super fun rifle. I changed the sights to the hi viz and bought a speed loader for it. For the price it can't be beat.

I have one. Great action, kind of heavy but no recoil. No scratches yet

It comes with a little receiver sock to protect the finish while in the safe or in trasit to/from the range. If you are careful at the range and don't drop/drag it across the ground, you should be fine.

I dislike guns that I have to baby. I like form and function. Certainly I can care for my guns and do, but to have one I have to worry about defeats the purpose. It reminds me of people who bury a gun in the dirt or otherwise render their firearm inoperable and not loaded. A firearm is not useful in those conditions if you need it to save your life or provide the next meal. That's why the gunfighter who wins the battle is the one with their gun loaded and cocked. Doesn't do any good otherwise. Somehow we have lost that intelligence and have decided that when they are loaded, they are unsafe and scary. Exactly!

I have a Big Boy in 357 on order, beautiful and fun to shoot. If **** hits the fan I would probably reach for something else.

I have one and love it. I heard that Henry sells replacement receiver covers(that's all the pretty brass like structure is) so if yours gets damaged you can easily replace it.

Henrys are great. I bought my son a Golden Boy for graduation and it is a very fun rifle. I have a H-001 for myself and it is one of the most fun firearms I have ever shot. I swapped out the rear sight for the Skinner sight and it is wicked accurate. The actions on the Henrys are superb.

Is that "Brasslite" finish on the receiver just something that simulates brass or is it actually made of brass? I absolutely hate the smell of brass and how much maintenance is required to keep it shiny, that this would definitely be a deal breaker if it were in fact made of brass.
