Bought my first 17hmr rifle today

Well, since it seems like every other caliber is always out of stock when I get around to going anywhere that sells ammo, I decided it was time to buy something in a caliber I can actually find on the shelves right now.

Feel like I got a decent deal, paid $350 for a lightly used Savage 93r17 with 1 mag, Cabela's Pine Ridge 17hmr 3-9x40 scope, nice laminated wood stock and 375 rounds of Winchester Varmint HV ammo. Checked it over before buying and everything looked good and well taken care of. The only thing that stinks is that temps are hitting 110 right now in Phoenix, and most of the desert spots are closed due to fire risk. I may try taking it out to one of the outdoor ranges in the area either this weekend or next to see what it is capable of with me behind the trigger.

Right now I'm just having fun admiring how mean this tiny round looks.

BTW, yeah, I know, thread is useless without pics, but I just got home, so I will take a few and upload tonight or tomorrow.

Congrats I have the same gun with the bull barrel. They are very accurate but mine is quite picky on ammo with the 17gr v-max I will hit bullseyes all day but 20gr i will be shooting a 2 1/2 in group at 100 yds still not bad but not nearly as accurate as the v-max. the 17 hmr is a great little varmit round tho. Enjoy it

I have three 17HMR rifles two Savages a blue FV and a SS bull barrel thumb hole I love the caliber. The other is a little Mossberg it shoots well but not like either of the Savages.

Congrats! I have the Savage 93R17 FV and I LOVE it! I shoot hundreds of rounds through it every time I take it out. You're gonna love it. I put a Harris bipod and a Redfield scope on mine. Enjoy!

Lol. Yeah, sorry I've been too busy to get out the camera. I have an XD-S 9mm thread that is awaiting pics as well. I'll do my best to upload tonight.

I used to have a mossberg 817 (iirc) it was a .17hmr and fun to shoot. Like most of my guns i sold I wish I kept it. The .17hmr does look like a cool round thats what got me in to it. Hope you enjoy your new addition.

No pics yet! I have a bushnell 6X18 I think on it but I might sell that one and put a 3X9 or 4X12 on it.

I have a Savage HB stainless and a Ruger M77 -- both in 17 HMR. It's a great round and you can doodle all day at 100 shooting in light wind that really gives you doping practice for 600.
The Savage magazines suck, but with some tinkering they will feed ok.

Picture, finally. Not the greatest quality either, but I suck at taking pictures of guns and making it look good.
