    Beginner youth Pistol recommendations

My daughter really wants to learn how to shoot. I've been teaching her everything about handguns already. She knows the safe practices and I've even made her read the HSC book and made her take a test that I put together. I would rather start her off with a handgun because I really don't have much expierence with rifles. I forgot to add that she is 10 years old.

So what would be a good .22 cal handgun to start with. I do have two .22 pistols already but I don't think would be a good idea to start off with. I have a jennings j22 and a tiger single six. I was thinking of a ruger sr22, m&p22 or a sig 1911-22. My daughter has really long fingers so she can grip a full size. She can grip my xd9 tactical prett well.

    What are y'all thoughts?

I'm going to guess "tiger single six" was supposed to be ruger single six.
Since you already have a revolver I would suggest you start there.

If you are dead set on picking up a new semiauto I would say its hard to beat the reliability and accuracy of the Ruger MK series. To cut down weight for a kid I would suggest the 22/45.

Those Ruger SR-22 Pistols are pretty nice and fairly inexpensive. Turner's has them now.

From Rugers website it puts the 6.5 Single Six at 35oz
            The Ruger MK3 5.5 22/45 at 32oz
I assume these are both empty weights but as you can see there is not much differnece.

Now the SR22 is a lot lighter at 17.5oz...

Have her hold your Single Six unloaded at home and talk to her about proper hold/stance/operation techniques before going to the range. While she is doing this you can gauge if she can support it or not

Hah, no. Hands down the worst firearm I have ever held.

            Edit to add:
Heres a recent thread that is along the same lines

I think the Single Six would be a great choice. It is a beautiful firearm that will help her learn all of the fundamentals of shooting, i.e. sight picture, etc. I do not think that the standard version is too big or heavy for a 10 year old. If you are set on a semi-auto, consider the Ruger SR22 or the S&W M&P22.

Recommend SR22 - that was my first pistol. Great for a beginner

My daughter does think my glock is cool looking. How reliable is it? I haven't done much reviews on it.

I have heard a lot of good things about it. I missed out aboit a month ago. The LGS had 4 of them but I couldn't make up my mind. I've heard and read that its picky with ammo though, is that true?

Ruger SR22 is a GREAT starter pistol. Mine runs on anything I feed it, and you can "tune" its recoil to the shooter's experience level. Load standard velocity ammo and it is tame as a kitten. Load high velocity ammo and it has more kick or "bite".

And it runs 100% on whichever type: Probably the .22 pistol which is the least finicky about ammo.

For a pistol that can become something she would keep for a lifetime (and will remain functional that long).

                          High Standard

Buy only those that were made in one of the two Ct. locations. Use only SV ammo in the early ones. The grip size and grip angles really suited the women in my family. Super easy to break down for cleaning. All steel, high quality. Models similar to the one below will start at about $350.

I also shoot a GSG 1911-22. It will be about the same price (new) , lighter with a 1911 grip size and shape, but not the same quality.

My family enjoys the M&P22, I'm going to pick up a SR22 next week for more family fun.
