    Bolt Action .22LR- what's recommended

Looking for a bolt action .22 since semi autos will soon be assault weapons. Don't want to break the bank. I don't have any bolt .22s.
This year will go down in history.... Don't want to offend anybody

CZ 452. Bought my son a 452 scout when he was 6. Trigger feels smoother than my 10/22.

For the money, there is no better rifle you can buy than a CZ 452 or a 455. They are probably the best fit, finish, and performing rifle out of the box for sub $500. My CZ 452 trainer cost me about $420 and it was shooting dime sized groups at 50 yards out of the box with low end bulk ammo.

You really don't need any mods to the rifle for it to be a shooter. If you do get a CZ 455 though, it is the easiest barrel swap currently on the market (even easier than Savage's setup). Many aftermarket match barrel makers are making CZ drop in barrels for the 455 for Olympic performance levels. If that is not your bag, you can also have the options of buying different rimfire caliber rifles and just swap barrels and be ready to shoot. Current popular barrels are the 22lr, 22wmr, and 17hrm.

Sure they cost more than the basic .22lr, but for just a few hundred bucks more, you can get a Trainer/Lux/UltraLux and shoot irons and have a perfectly good rifles with guaranteed 1 MOA shot group.

Savage in the $200-250 range, CZ in the $500 range...above that I dunno.

Next step up would probably be a old Walther, Kimber, BRNO which will tak you to the $1k range.

After that then it is Anshultz which is the best money can buy right now.

I have a CZ 455 and just recently got a factory varmint barrel for it. Who else is making CZ 455 replacement barrels other than Lilja and CZ?

I recently acquired the Savage Mark II in 22lr and love it at 100 yards. I asked the same question of my gun shop manager and without hesitation he highly recommended this rifle. Unfortunately he did not have one in stock and special ordered it for me. I have been using bulk ammo and getting tight group shots at 100 yards.

Well I own a Savage Mark II GL and it's fantastic. Cost me a total of about $300 brand new with 500 rounds of Golden Bullet and after all fees (DROS, tax, etc.). And I can't speak highly enough about the accutrigger. Super light trigger pull and it's even adjustable if you want to make it lighter.

Shilen and a few other companies will make them for the CZ upon request according to sources from RimfireCentral.com

Cost wise though, it would be hard pressed to beat Lilja.

Definitely the accutrigger probably the best thing I feel the savage has going for it. The one on my Model 11 is really good, but many at the same time dislike it.

The CZ trigger though is very easy serviceable with an inexpensive trigger kit for $18 for a perfect, clean, crisp breaking trigger.

picked up a CZ 452 Scout for my son. even with the short LOP I enjoy shooting it. was going to go with a youth Marlin XT22 but couldn't find one. the CZ is a little more than the Marlin, but happy with the purchase. the XT22 is nearly half the price, so at the lower price point I hear you can't go wrong with either.
