Hate the bolt lock on my 10/22 takedown

Recently picked up a 10/22 takedown and I love it. That said I hate the bolt lock. That's all

I hated it and swore i was going to do the mod, but I got so used to it that it' second nature now. You only really use it when the firing line goes cold anyways.

Need to look into this more... My naive understanding is the mod releases the lock when you pull the bolt back. Am I on track?

You can mod the original part, or some aftermarket ones also have an extended front tab for easier use.

Allows you to release the bolt by just pulling back and releasing. Dremel away!

Agree, I hated it on mine. I bought an upgrade from Kidd along with a few other of their upgrades. Works great and well worth the price. Or do it yourself if you feel handy.

I just got a new one for my 10/22. It takes about 5 min to install. The stock part sucks.

Thanks for all the responses Checked out a few YouTube videos and it definitely seems simple enough to pull out the stock part and replace/modify. I placed an order for a replacement part since it was cheaper than buying some grinding bits for my Dremel (plus I'd probably screw it up ).

I dremeled mine, but not successfully. Apparently most people get away with just making the heart shape an oval, but mine that wasn't enough.

So I need to go back and finish it. But while it doesn't auto-release, it isn't finicky anymore...just touching it a bit when the charging handle is pressed back, and pop. No more having to depress it at just the right angle...so I was close...

Hmm, I did not remove any material from the large angled area. Unless they changed the profile in the newer rifles.

See the VQ, the lower edge where the point was is arched/bowed in an arc. It must be bowed to work well. The Ruger shows the profile as almost straight. Be sure its arched/bowed and you're golden!

To operate, you just rack the bolt back. It will release. It sounds like you are trying to release the bolt by still pressing on the bolt release tab.
