Need Advice - Rimfire Scope and Base for 10/22 Takedown

I need some advice for a scope and mounting solution for a 10/22 takedown. Any general information on scopes for rimfire firearms would be good too.

This will be used for general plinking and for occasional camping, travel, etc. where applicable/legal, both in and out of state. It will be stored in the backpack it comes with or other similar object.

So far I have looked at:
Vortex Crossfire 2-7x32 Rimfire, Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 Rimfire, Nikon Prostaff 4x32, Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 (are these still rebranded Leupolds?), Weaver 2.5-7x28.

What I would like, in order of importance:
- Rugged and lightweight scope and system. Needs to hold zero and not get damaged given intended usage. Also adjustments that have a cover, firm notch for zero, etc. would be nice if it exists for rimfire.
- Total system under $250 if possible (scope, rings, base). Of course, if it can be done for $100 somehow, I have no problems with that.
- Ability to use irons and scope. Doesn't have to be simultaneously, but something like QD scope rings and a base that doesn't block the irons would be preferred.
- Reticle similar to a wide duplex, fine duplex, or similar reticle that leaves the center clean and unobscured is preferred. BDC reticles are OK if they don't have big circles everywhere.
- 3 or 4x fixed, or 2-7x would be ideal, 3-9 is acceptable.
- Fixed objective at 50 yards, but AO is fine if the scope is still light.

Other:
- Would prefer MOA here, but MIL is fine too.
- Any color is fine, as long as it's a matte finish.
- I don't need it all anytime soon, so I have no problem waiting for things to go on sale or waiting for a new product that may be released soon.

you can use the Kidd base. That's what I have. Also planning on getting the vortex crossfire rimfire and rings.

I just ordered a picatinny rail from Evolution Gunworks....they have great reviews. I have a larue LT104 quick detach mount from another gun and I'm planning on getting a vortex scope to put on it.....should be a good setup on my stainless bull barrel 10/22.....I'm just not sure which scope to get yet. I've spent too much already on it.....

Most of what you've looked at are too long, you'll need a scope not much over 10" long if you want it to fit in the bag. If I were you I'd go with a 10.1" Leopold VX-1 2-7x28 rimfire ($220) in the lowest set of Leopold Rifleman rings ($15) that will work, mounted on the Weaver style base ($0) that came with your Ruger. Or you could try a Leopold Rifleman base ($8) but with only 3 cross slots it may not give you enough fore and aft adjustment for your scope, but for only $8 I'd try it.

Or for the same price you could go with a 9.2" Leopold FX-1 4x28 rimfire and have a little more room to play with.

FWIW I think a matte black scope in matte black rings on a matte black Weaver base looks great on a silver rifle.

sholling - not trying to make a backhanded comment or anything, but will 1" really make that big of a difference? admittingly, yes, fit will be a bit tighter with a longer scope or larger objective diameter, but it seems like things would still fit in the bag (or another back pack). i dismissed the same VX1 earlier since it's price was close to my limit and i wanted QD rings which i expect to be at least $40 or 50 for a good set. if i don't find a good solution with QD though, both of your solutions look pretty good.

the rifleman base looks perfect aside from the limited number of cross slots though. while the ruger base is perfectly functional, especially given my budget, it does leave room for improvement.

There are at least a dozen threads on what fits and what does not.

Forgot to post an update earlier:

Ended up going with a Nikon Prostaff 4x32, Leupold Rifleman base, and UTG QD rings (medium to clear rear sight). May switch to a Leupold 2-7 later and different rings, but the current setup has actually worked out OK so far. Everything fits in the Ruger bag easily (detach scope and fit in compartment beside barrel sleeve. Doesn't hold zero perfectly, but its close. Haven't had enough time to test how much it shifts yet when reattaching.

One con is that I can't get the scope forward enough with either base, I need like an extra 1/2 inch for proper eye relief with this scope unless I'm standing and can consciously pull my neck back a little. Not a big problem though as I'm waiting for Hogue to come out with a 10/22 take down stock anyways, the Ruger one doesn't fit me as well as it could (and if Hogue doesn't, I could always get a standard one, cut in half, and just replace the back end).

The Leupold FX 1-4x28 IMO is the right glass for a 10/22 TD. It has the right proportions for that rifle and excellent glass at 4x. Any more power is a trade off in size and loss of FOV. The 10/22 TD is not a target rifle so why incumber it with a huge scope.
